Matchstick
Blinds
Matchstick blinds are not really made of
matchsticks. However, since they are made up of very narrow
rounded sticks, about 1/8" in diameter, hence the name. The
sticks are usually wooden and mostly bamboo, woven tightly
together with threads.
Some
matchstick blinds have a rough finish while there are those
that have elegant, smooth, and perfectly round surfaces.
Because of their uniform surfaces, each stick can be tightly
woven with the next, providing for good insulation as well as
ample privacy.
Many
matchstick blinds are painted with colors and designs that
match the theme of the room. To maintain the brilliance of the
colors, the blinds have to be dusted regularly as dust can
easily accumulate in the crevices. In extreme cases, the spaces
between sticks can be infested by molds or very small insects.
This usually happens when the room is constantly very
humid.
Among
the popular plain colors for matchstick blinds are burnt,
tortoise, and natural color. These are the types that add a
subtle natural ambience.
Matchstick blinds can also be designed to
allow ample sunshine to peep in by making the slits between the
sticks wider. Even when this is done, your eyes will still be
shielded from direct sunlight, giving a soft illumination
inside the room.
