Bamboo
Blinds
Bamboo
blinds are made up of woven slats of decorative wood. In Japan,
where they are known as sudare or misu, bamboo blinds are used
to shield the verandah from insects, wind, dust, or sunlight.
Although, strictly speaking, sudare and misu are general terms
that can refer to wooden blinds as well.
One
advantage of this type is that bamboo has a natural skin that
protects its surface. Hence, it can withstand the forces of
nature better. There are two common stitching materials that
are used on them. One is cotton, the other is tetron. Although
synthetic, tetron is more durable.
Some
bamboo blinds, called white bamboo, have their protective skin
removed. This gives them a cleaner, immaculate appearance. In
order to protect the exposed layer, the surface is usually
coated with clear lacquer. However, there are also
manufacturers who stain them with teak, golden oak, walnut, or
practically any other color. The preferred colors are usually
in shades of brown.
Although
bamboo blinds, just like most exotic blinds, originated from
Asia, they are now popular all over the world. This is mainly
due to their elegant appearance as well as their durability,
allowing them to look good inside and outside the
house.
